Race Letter 2013
REGISTRATION: Pre-registration should be completed through www.getmeregistered.com, or go to the link provided on www.kidstriforkids.com. To facilitate registration, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that participants also obtain membership with USA Triathlon at www.usatmemberships.com. USAT memberships will be available on race morning, however paperwork will be required (may be lengthy). A field limit is pre-set at 25 children per age-group per gender. If field sizes are significantly larger, additional waves may be added.
The cost for participation is $30, but there is a $15 late charge if you don’t register on line. There will be no refunds if the race is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
RACE PACKET: Participants can begin picking up their packets at 2.5 hrs before the first wave starts. Packet pick-up will be held on the north side of the Jordan YMCA outdoor pool Under the Registrations tents. Proof of USAT membership must be provided, or new membership paperwork will need to be completed. Youth USAT membership is $15 for a full year.
PRE-RACE MEETING: A mandatory race meeting for all participants and parent/guardians will take place 30 minutes before the first wave start to race. It will be next to the transition area on the pool deck.
RACE DISTANCES: All distances are approximate.
7-8 year olds: 100 meter swim, 1.7 mile bike and 0.5 mile run.
9-10 year olds: 100 meter swim, 1.7 mile bike and 0.5 mile run.
11-12 year olds: 200 meter swim, 3.3 mile bike and 1 mile run.
13-14 year olds: : 200 meter swim, 3.3 mile bike and 1 mile run.
TRANSITION AREA: After the mandatory race meeting, the transition area will be closed to all spectators/parents and other non-participants. Participants will place all their biking and running gear in the transition area. Parents and spectators are to keep the gate area between the pool and transition clear for participant’s use only during the race. The Jordan YMCA race uses two different transition areas. Any items specific to the run will need to be given to the Transition Area coordinator to be transported across the street to the bike-to-run transition.
START: The first wave will start at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 2, 2013, Labor Day. Each age-group wave will then start in waves according to the pre-determined time intervals.
PARKING: Parking will be available north of Northview Middle School. Access to this lot will be from the traffic light on 86th Street. This parking lot will be a greater distance from the start of the race, but will be closest to the end of the race.
SPECTATORS: Spectators will not be allowed in the transition area once racing has started. Spectators will flow from the pool to the bike and run area through the east pool gate locatd in the southwest corner of the pool.
RULES: This race is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. Participants must know and follow the rules posted by USA Triathlon. Visit www. USATriathlon.org for more information. All participants must wear an approved bike helmet while on the bike.
RESULTS: Results will be posted on the Kids Tri for Kids website, www.kidstriforkids.com.
PRIZES: Prizes/medals will be awarded to the top 3 finishers for each gender in every age group. Finisher ribbons will be awarded to all participants.
DIRECTIONS: DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From I-465 on the north side of Indianapolis, take the IN-431/KEYSTONE AVE exit, EXIT 33. Take the ramp toward INDIANAPOLIS. Turn south onto N KEYSTONE AVE/IN-431 S. After one half mile, take the 86TH ST ramp toward NORA/CASTLETON. Keep RIGHT at end of the ramp and go west on E 86TH ST. After about 1.5 miles, turn LEFT onto N WESTFIELD BLVD. End at 8400 Westfield Blvd Indianapolis, IN 46240.
SWIM: The swim will take place in the Jordan YMCA outdoor 50 meter pool. Participants will be started in waves separated by age and gender. They will swim around buoys placed at either end of the pool.
T1: The swim to bike transition will take place in the parking lot on the north side of the pool.
BIKE: The bike course will leave the north YMCA entrance and turn south on Westfield Blvd for about 300 meters. Riders will then turn left into the Northview Middle School entry road at the traffic light. The participants will ride east back towards the tennis center. Once at the tennis center, riders will turn right, or south, as they make a counter-clockwise loop around the North Central Campus. As riders pass by the front or north side of NCHS, they will turn left or back south heading back towards the tennis center. Before they reach the first tennis court, riders will turn right and head back west towards the front of Northview Middle School, but this time they will be riding past the north face of the building.
Please be cautious of speed bumps and sharp turns. The bike course will be closed to vehicular traffic.
T2: The second transition will be on the Northview Middle School entrance drive on the south side of the property.
RUN: The run will be a ½ mile clockwise loop around the Northview MS soccer field and a small field to the north. 99% of this run course is on grass.
